How does Illuvium work?

Illuvium operates as a token on an existing blockchain network, meaning it lacks an independent consensus mechanism. Instead, the token relies entirely on the security and validation processes of its parent chain. This structural design allows the gaming platform to function without maintaining a separate network of independent miners.

Participants in this ecosystem interact with the token primarily through the gaming interface and governance portals. Network validators on the underlying blockchain handle the actual processing of all token transfers and smart contracts. Consequently, users simply connect their digital wallets to the platform without managing any complex node operations.

When a user initiates a transaction within the game, the request is broadcast to the parent blockchain. The underlying network validators group these transactions into blocks and execute the necessary smart contract logic. Once the parent chain achieves finality, the transaction settles permanently, updating the user balances and in-game assets.
