They dedicate significant computational resources to validate transactions and maintain the integrity of the public ledger. In return for their work and resource expenditure, miners receive newly created ETC as a block reward for their contributions.

When a user initiates a transaction, it is broadcast to the network and placed in a memory pool of unconfirmed transactions. Miners select transactions from this pool to include in the new block they are attempting to create. Once a block is successfully mined and added to the chain, the included transactions are permanently recorded and considered confirmed.
