Each shard contains a portion of the network's nodes and can process a fraction of the total transactions independently. When a user submits a transaction, it is assigned to a specific shard for validation. The nodes within that shard reach a consensus on the transaction's validity through the pBFT mechanism. After processing, the results from all shards are aggregated and recorded on the main Zilliqa blockchain.

New tokens are introduced into the ecosystem as rewards for the nodes that participate in the consensus process and secure the network.
