Lido DAO operates as a decentralized application on the Ethereum blockchain, and therefore relies on Ethereum's consensus mechanism for security and transaction validation. The protocol itself does not have its own independent consensus layer for block production. Instead, all operations and LDO token transfers are processed and secured by the underlying proof-of-stake network of Ethereum.

The Lido protocol involves several key participants, including stakers, node operators, and the DAO itself. Stakers deposit their assets, such as ETH, into the Lido smart contracts to earn staking rewards. Node operators are responsible for running the validator infrastructure that secures the underlying proof-of-stake networks on behalf of the protocol.

When a user stakes assets with Lido, the protocol mints a liquid staking token, such as stETH, representing their staked position. This token can then be transferred or used in other decentralized finance applications, providing liquidity for otherwise locked assets. All transactions, including staking, reward distribution, and governance votes, are recorded as transactions on the Ethereum blockchain.
