The network's operation relies on nodes that process transactions and generate the zero-knowledge proofs for the bundled data. These operators collect user transactions off-chain, order them, and compute the validity proof for the entire group. Users interact with applications built on Immutable, experiencing lower fees and faster confirmation times provided by the layer-2 environment.

When a user initiates a transaction, such as an NFT trade, it is first sent to Immutable's off-chain environment. The transaction is then included in a batch with many others, and a zk-rollup proof is created for the entire batch. Finally, this proof is posted to an Ethereum smart contract, which confirms the state change and secures the transactions with the security of the main Ethereum network.
