Wie funktioniert Rocket Pool?

Rocket Pool operates as a decentralized application built directly on the Ethereum network. Consequently, it relies entirely on Ethereum's Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism for its security and transaction finality. This underlying structure means all RPL transactions are processed, validated, and permanently recorded by Ethereum's global network of validators.

The protocol's ecosystem involves two main groups of participants: regular stakers and specialized node operators. Stakers can deposit ETH into the Rocket Pool smart contract to receive a liquid staking token, rETH. Node operators are responsible for running the validator hardware, and they must stake their own ETH alongside ETH from the general staking pool.

When users stake their ETH, the protocol mints a corresponding amount of rETH, which represents their staked principal plus ongoing rewards. The native RPL token is primarily used by node operators as a form of insurance collateral staked alongside ETH. If a node operator underperforms or acts maliciously, their staked RPL can be used to compensate the protocol for any lost ETH rewards.
