Was ist Livepeer?

Livepeer is the native token of the Livepeer decentralized video streaming network, designed to provide an open and more cost-effective infrastructure for video broadcasting. The project was launched in 2018 by founders Doug Petkanics and Eric Tang. The network operates on a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where participants stake LPT to secure the network and ensure the quality of work. Its primary function is to coordinate and incentivize network participants to provide video transcoding services. The Livepeer network is secured using a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, which is a system that relies on token holders to validate transactions. Participants, known as delegators, stake their LPT tokens to support network operators called orchestrators. This staking process helps maintain the integrity and security of the entire video processing workflow.

Network participants are divided into key roles that ensure smooth operation of the video transcoding services. Orchestrators run the software that performs the video processing, contributing their computer's processing power and bandwidth. Delegators are LPT holders who bond their tokens to orchestrators, signaling their trust and earning a portion of the fees in return.

The transaction flow begins when a broadcaster sends a video stream to the Livepeer network for processing. An orchestrator transcodes the video into different formats and bitrates, making it suitable for various devices and connection speeds. This work is then verified by the network, and the orchestrator receives payment in LPT for their services.

Livepeer Tokenomics

Livepeer's tokenomics are designed to support the network's long-term operation and growth through an inflationary model. The token, LPT, does not have a maximum supply, which allows for continuous issuance of new tokens to reward network participants. As of recent data, the circulating supply is approximately 49.6 million LPT. New LPT is minted in each round and distributed to stakers and orchestrators who contribute to the network's security and functionality through the Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism. This system is intended to incentivize ongoing participation and ensure that there are always sufficient resources to compensate those who maintain the network's video transcoding capabilities.
