The network is maintained by a distributed group of participants, primarily validators and token holders. Validators run the software that maintains the blockchain's integrity, processes transactions, and adds new blocks. CELO holders can participate indirectly by delegating their tokens to a chosen validator, contributing to network security and earning a portion of the rewards.

When a user initiates a transaction, it is broadcast across the Celo network for validation. Validators then bundle a set of pending transactions into a block and propose it to the network for confirmation. Once other validators agree on the block's validity, it is permanently added to the blockchain, and the transaction is considered complete.

The current circulating supply is 602,211,072 CELO, representing the amount of tokens publicly available. New tokens are introduced into circulation as rewards for validators who secure the network through the Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism.
